Eventually, he returned to Auburn and completed his master's in 1978. He would briefly teach a high school level course on rocket science, and continued to work in ballistic design for the Navy. He would return to Huntsville in 1987 and work for the Army's Propulsion Directorate at Redstone Arsenal, which enabled him to travel abroad frequently, and participate in international scientific events.
